News programming includes Fox News alongside local news, weather, and area sports coverage. The station first broadcast on May 1, 1990, and operates continuously around the clock. It has remained locally owned since its founding, with Ed Schumacher, who acquired the license in September 1989, continuing to serve as president and general manager. WTUZ is a member of the National Association of Broadcasters and the Ohio Association of Broadcasters, and has been recognized by both organizations: twice nominated for NAB Small Market Station of the Year, and a recipient of the Crystal Award for outstanding community service in 2009. It also received the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters award for Small Market Outstanding News Operation in 2010.
