The station is licensed to EVIT, a regional career and technical education institution. The station's history on 88.7 FM begins with its previous ownership by the Arizona Community Media Foundation, which sold it to EVIT in early 2015 for $700,000. EVIT, which had separately owned a station at 90.7 FM in Apache Junction, retained the KVIT call letters when it sold the Apache Junction facility to Desert Soul Media in December 2021, placing those calls on the Chandler frequency. Programming is produced primarily by EVIT students and local DJs, making the station an educational training platform for broadcast media careers. The format has evolved over time: the station initially focused on Top 40 with a rhythmic lean, shifted toward alternative rock around 2022, and by 2023 had adopted a contemporary hit radio orientation while incorporating classic rock, alternative, and hip-hop tracks.
