A commercial FM radio station licensed to Germantown, Tennessee, and serving the Greater Memphis metropolitan area. Owned by Flinn Broadcasting, the station carries a contemporary hit radio format with studios on Mount Moriah Road in Southeast Memphis. Its transmitter is located in Cordova, Tennessee, and the station also broadcasts in HD Radio, with an HD-2 digital subchannel dedicated to classic hip hop, relayed via FM translator W242CF at 96.3 MHz. The station first signed on in June 1993 under the call sign WAQK, later changing to WJOI. In 1997, Flinn Broadcasting acquired it for $4.5 million and launched a Top 40 format under the call sign WKSL as "107.5 KISS FM," modeled on KIIS-FM in Los Angeles. That format ended in 2001, giving way to a rhythmic contemporary hits format as WYYL, followed by an adult album alternative format as WMPS. In 2004, the station returned to Top 40 under the WHBQ-FM call sign and the "Q 107-5" branding. It expanded its signal in 2010 with a simulcast on 96.1 FM. The station has passed through several format and branding iterations over the decades, including a classic hits phase, before returning to contemporary hit radio programming.
