A non-commercial college radio station operating at 88.9 FM, broadcasting from the campus of Loyola Marymount University in southwest Los Angeles, California. First licensed and on the air in 1957, the station celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007. It maintains a small but dedicated following among music fans across the broader Los Angeles metropolitan area. The station's programming covers a broad musical spectrum including rock, alternative music, specialty genres, fine arts, and Latin jazz. Weekday daytime programming from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. is primarily hosted by college students. Specialty shows include "Stray Pop," "Music For Nimrods," "She Rocks," "In a Dream," "The Bomb Shelter," "Livation," "The Molotov Cocktail Hour," "The Windmills of Your Mind," "Neuz Pollution," "A Fistful Of Vinyl," and "Center Stage," among others. A public affairs program titled "Echo in the Sense" also airs on the station. The weekend Latin jazz block "Alma del Barrio" has been a continuous feature since 1973. The program has been curated by host Eddie Lopez for over 40 years. "Demolisten" is one of the station's longest-running specialty programs, airing weekly since 1984. The show exclusively plays demo recordings from unsigned acts and is credited with introducing numerous artists to the public. It began when a DJ known as "Agent Ava" started a program built around reel-to-reel demos, including early recordings from Jane's Addiction and Faith No More. Station leadership includes a General Manager, Program Director, and Music Director, positions filled by students and staff affiliated with Loyola Marymount University.
