KOST is a commercial FM station broadcasting at 103.5 MHz in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, owned by iHeartMedia. The station carries an adult contemporary format throughout most of the year, transitioning to an all-Christmas music programming schedule beginning in early November and continuing through the days immediately following Christmas Day. Studios are co-located with iHeartMedia sister stations on West Olive Avenue in Burbank, while the transmitter operates atop Mount Wilson alongside the majority of Los Angeles-area television and FM radio facilities. Due to its elevation on Mount Wilson, KOST is classified among a group of grandfathered "superpower" FM stations whose effective radiated power exceeds the standard Class B FM limits set by the Federal Communications Commission. The station broadcasts using HD Radio technology; its HD2 digital subchannel carries programming from co-owned talk station KFI. KOST is the home station of Ellen K, whose morning show segments are syndicated to other iHeartMedia adult contemporary stations on Saturday mornings. The station signed on in August 1957 as KGLA, passed through an experimental all-advertisement format under radio programmer Gordon McLendon in the mid-1960s, and adopted the KOST-FM identity in October 1967 alongside a beautiful music format. Subsequent decades brought format shifts through adult contemporary programming to its current positioning. The HD2 subchannel rebroadcasts KFI.
