This radio station offers diverse programming.
A freeform, artist-run community radio station based in the Chinatown neighborhood of Los Angeles, broadcasting on 1630 AM and streaming online. Founded by Solomon Bothwell in 2011, the station operates under the Federal Communications Commission's Part 15 rules, which govern very-low-power transmissions and do not require a broadcast license. It broadcasts more than 200 programs per month, drawing on a rotating pool of artists, musicians, writers, and philosophers who volunteer as hosts. The station maintains a nomadic tradition, having broadcast from locations throughout the city including the Hammer Museum, LACMA, The Smell, MOCA, and the LA Anarchist Bookfair. In 2014, it participated in the UCLA Hammer Museum's Made in L.A. exhibition, during which it launched KCHUNG TV, a fifteen-week livestream video series produced inside the museum. The station received a Creative Capital Emerging Field Award in 2016 for its project News Body. Notable programs have included FOS FM hosted by Mark Foster, Adventures Within by Jennifer Moon, Riffin with Max Maslansky, Crystalline Morphologies by Gabie Strong, and Slamdunx from the Free Throw Line, a music and basketball show hosted by Christina Gubala. The station has also hosted a public installation at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, where it broadcast live from a custom-retrofitted shipping container, emphasizing cooperative community participation in media and cultural production.
