Public radio station operated by the University of Kentucky since its founding in 1940. Originally licensed as WBKY on experimental frequencies before transitioning to FM in 1945 at 91.3 MHz. The station pioneered educational broadcasting and was among the 90 original outlets that carried the inaugural broadcast of All Things Considered in 1971. Operates as an NPR member with an adult album alternative format, broadcasting over 100 hours of music weekly supplemented by news and information programming from NPR, PRI, APM, and the BBC. Transmits at 100,000 watts from studios on the university campus, with listener support supplemented by university funding and Corporation for Public Broadcasting grants.
