It first signed on in December 1960 as WIBC-FM, airing an automated classical format. In 1968 it was relaunched as WNAP, becoming the first Indianapolis FM station to blend album-oriented rock and Top 40 in a format known as "Rock 40," a forerunner of the contemporary hit radio format. The station operated under the WNAP identity for several decades before eventually transitioning to its current news-talk format. WIBC's call letters and talk programming moved from 1070 AM to the 93.1 FM frequency on December 26, 2007. Studios are located at 40 Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. The station broadcasts in HD, with its HD2 signal carrying the local sports format also heard on sister stations, and HD3 simulcasting HD2.
