WMTU FM 91.9 streams live from Houghton MI, United States, on Tuninga Radio.
This radio station offers diverse programming.
A student-run campus radio station operating out of the basement of Wadsworth Hall at Michigan Technological University, broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Its origins trace to 1956, when a carrier-current AM service called WVRW — Voice of Radio, Wadsworth — began serving the dormitories. The callsign evolved to WRS in 1958 to reflect expanded dormitory coverage, and the current callsign was adopted in 1975. FM broadcasting began via local cable television in 1977, and a 24-hour format with three-hour blocks was established by 1979. An over-the-air FM license from the FCC was granted in 1993, and the station began transmitting from the Mechanical Engineering building at 100 watts the following year. In 1998, streaming launched via RealAudio. A 2005 transmitter relocation to a university tower atop Arcadia Hill allowed a power increase to 4,400 watts effective radiated power, significantly expanding coverage beyond campus. The station is operated by a volunteer air staff alongside department heads and a general manager, and also streams live via Twitch.
