A news/talk and classic hits radio station broadcasting at 1450 AM in Holland, Michigan, owned by Midwest Communications, Inc. The station signed on July 31, 1948, originally owned by a consortium of six Holland-area businessmen including Nelson Bosman, who later served as the city's mayor from 1961 to 1971. The station remained under that founding group until Michael Walton of Milwaukee purchased it in 1981, later selling his four-station group — which included WHBL, WWJR, and WBFM in Sheboygan, Wisconsin — to Midwest Communications on September 20, 2000. WHTC is affiliated with CBS Radio and carries Detroit Tigers baseball, Detroit Lions and Red Wings programming, and area high school football and basketball. An FM translator, W259CO at 99.7 FM, was granted a construction permit in February 2016 and debuted on March 10, 2017. A notable chapter in the station's history involves Juke Van Oss, who joined WHTC on August 12, 1951, and worked there until his death on March 7, 2016 — a tenure of nearly 65 years. Van Oss served as an engineer, program host, and assistant station manager, and in 1961 became co-host of Talk of the Town, a daily call-in program originally developed by Bill Gargano in 1959. Van Oss became the program's sole host in 1981 and was inducted into the Michigan Broadcasting Hall of Fame on July 14, 2009. Following Van Oss's death, long-time broadcaster Ed VerSchure took over hosting duties. The station continues to provide local news coverage across the Holland and Zeeland communities.
