This radio station offers diverse programming.
One of the oldest continuously operating radio stations on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, first going on the air in 1928 under the ownership of Gulf Coast Music Co. Originally broadcasting at 1350 kHz, the frequency shifted to 1210 kHz later that year and settled at 1240 kHz in March 1941 pursuant to the North American Regional Broadcasting Agreement. By 1944 the station had affiliated with the Blue Network, which was reorganized as the American Broadcasting Company the following year. Over subsequent decades the station cycled through a series of formats and call sign changes: it operated as WTAM from 1980 with an urban contemporary sound before reverting to WGCM in 1987 with a country format, later transitioning through adult standards, sports, and classic country presentations. In 2016 the station added a translator on 100.9 MHz and rebranded as "Cruisin' WGCM" with an oldies format. In October 2025 the station adopted a rhythmic format under the brand Hype 100.9, swapping programming with the HD3 subchannel of WZKX. It is currently licensed to two principals through licensee JLE, Incorporated.
