Broadcasting at 91.3 MHz, this non-commercial FM station operates as a Christian adult contemporary outlet and serves as the flagship of Cornerstone Radio, the broadcast outreach ministry of Cornerstone University. The station competes consistently for top ratings in its radio market according to Nielsen audience measurement data. Its signal is rebroadcast across West Michigan through three translator and repeater frequencies: 90.9 in Springfield and the Battle Creek area, 88.3 serving the Kalamazoo market, and 89.9 covering the Benton Harbor area. The combined footprint of the four-station network provides at minimum secondary coverage stretching northward to Fremont and southward to Bridgman. The station first went on the air on June 9, 1973, following five years of preparation, with an easy listening and fine arts format. By 1981 programming had shifted to a primarily Christian format, and three years later the schedule transitioned to around-the-clock inspirational programming and music. The format eventually evolved into the Christian AC presentation that continues today. Because the station operates on a frequency reserved by the Federal Communications Commission for non-commercial educational use, it is prohibited from airing traditional pre-recorded commercials. Funding is instead supported through underwriting acknowledgements in which hosts recognize corporate and individual sponsors, a model common to public and non-commercial radio.
