A non-commercial, student-managed FM radio station licensed to Gettysburg College in south-central Pennsylvania, broadcasting at 91.1 MHz. The station has its origins in 1948, when it was established as WWGC, a closed-circuit AM system transmitted via telephony to dormitories and dining halls on campus, with programming limited to three hours per evening six days a week. Funding came from the Student Chest fund and administration was entirely student-run, with the first studio located on the third floor of Breidenbaugh Hall. Following a decision by the Gettysburg College Board of Trustees in 1975, the station transitioned from closed-circuit AM operation to a licensed terrestrial FM broadcaster. It received its first FCC license for educational FM broadcasting in 1976 and relaunched as WZBT 90.3 FM on October 23, 1978, with an initial power of 10 watts and an effective broadcast radius of approximately one mile covering the campus and downtown area. By 1982, WZBT had expanded to a Class A non-commercial FM license and was reassigned to 91.1 MHz. The station's current signal reaches an approximate radius of 35 miles from the center of the college, covering a wide area of south-central Pennsylvania and portions of northern Maryland, serving the greater Adams County community. Supervised by college administrators and faculty, the station's stated purposes include providing responsible communication for students and community members, functioning as a campus and regional information source, and offering entertainment programming. Programming includes music, news, and a variety of other content.
