The station carries a news-talk format, with local weekday programs hosted by Bonnie Amistadi, Steve Hallstrom, Ronnie Lee, Janae White, and Jay Thomas. National programming has included shows from Ben Shapiro, Kim Komando, Gary Sullivan, Leo Laporte, Red Eye Radio, and Markley, Van Camp, and Robbins, supplemented by ABC News Radio updates. WDAY also simulcasts newscasts from Valley News Live. The station's origins date to May 23, 1922, when its first license was issued, making it North Dakota's inaugural broadcast station. For more than seven decades through 2025, co-ownership with WDAY-TV allowed the radio station to simulcast on the television outlet during emergencies, a capability that was exercised during the 2009 Red River floods. This arrangement ended when previous owner Forum Communications divested the station.
