About WNGL 1410 AM
WNGL 1410 AM streams live from Fairhope AL, United States, on Tuninga Radio.
This radio station offers diverse programming.
Broadcasting at 1410 AM, the station carries a Catholic radio format serving the Mobile, Alabama metropolitan area. Since September 2009, it has operated under the ownership of Archangel Communications, Inc., a Fairhope-based organization dedicated to sharing what it describes as the good, true, and beautiful dimensions of the Catholic faith. Programming draws primarily from EWTN Global Catholic Radio, the international Catholic broadcasting network, supplemented by locally produced content including a weekday Live Hour segment and coverage of McGill-Toolen High School Football games. The station occupies a frequency with one of the longest broadcasting histories in the Mobile area. The outlet originally signed on as WODX on February 7, 1930, transmitting from the Battle House Hotel in downtown Mobile. It was owned by Pape Broadcasting Company and operated by W.O. Pape. The call sign changed to WALA in 1933, a designation that reportedly stood for "We Are Loyal Alabamians." The station later became WUNI in 1963, simultaneously becoming the first full-time country music station in the Mobile market. Country music legend Mel Tillis acquired the property in 1984 through his Tillis Communications, renaming it WMML. The station passed through additional ownership changes over subsequent decades before Archangel Communications took control and introduced its current Catholic programming mission.
