A Christian talk, teaching, and Southern Gospel music station operating as an AM station on 1110 kHz and rebroadcast on FM translator W282CD at 104.3 MHz in the Dayton, Ohio market. Licensed to Fairborn, Ohio, with studios in Dayton and its transmitter in Xenia, the station is owned by L&D Broadcasters Inc. and bills itself as "Dayton's Good News Station." It transmits at 5,000 watts daytime, reducing to 1,700 watts during critical hours and 2 watts at night due to 1110 AM being a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A stations WBT Charlotte and KFAB Omaha. The station was founded in 1968 as a 250-watt daytimer under the call sign WELX, owned by West Central Ohio Broadcasters Inc. The station was sold in 1979 to L&D Broadcasters and returned to air in 1980 with Urban and Southern Gospel music. In 1984 it became WMMX, and later adopted the current WGNZ call sign and "Good News 1110" slogan. By 2008, a new transmitter and tower facility was constructed. WGNZ is one of the last locally owned commercial stations in the Dayton market, featuring national teaching programs from speakers including Chuck Swindoll, John MacArthur, and David Jeremiah, alongside children's programming such as Adventures in Odyssey.
