WIKY-FM 104.1

An adult contemporary music station serving the Evansville, Indiana radio market, operating at 104.1 MHz. The call letters WIKY date to 1948, when John A. Engelbrecht obtained an FCC license for 820 AM; the FM counterpart signed on August 4, 1948, with one of the first FM licenses available in the area secured in 1953. The original studios were located on the west side of Evansville, in a distinctive building with studios in the basement and the Engelbrecht family residence above. The 820 AM frequency was sold to the University of Southern Indiana in 1981, where it continues as WSWI. The Engelbrecht family maintained ownership through their company South Central Communications for decades, which also operated stations in Nashville and Knoxville and a Muzak provider, South Central Sound. In the most recent available Arbitron ratings, the station ranked as the most-listened-to in the Evansville metro survey area, and was named Best Radio Station by the Evansville Courier Press Reader's Choice Awards for two consecutive years, as well as AC Station of the Year for markets 101 and above by Radio and Records magazine in 2008. In May 2014, Midwest Communications announced the purchase of nine of South Central Communications' ten stations, including this station along with sisters WABX, WLFW, and WSTO in Evansville. The sale was finalized September 2, 2014, for $72 million.
