A non-commercial, listener-supported internet radio station founded in February 2000 by William Goldsmith and his wife, Rebecca Goldsmith. The station began operations from the Goldsmith's home in Paradise, California, the location from which the station derives its name. Originally pioneering internet radio technology beginning in 1995, the station relocated to the Borrego Valley near San Diego in 2016 before moving to Eureka, California in 2022. The station streams multiple audio formats including compressed MP3 and AAC streams as well as lossless FLAC audio, allowing listeners to skip individual tracks and access detailed artist information. The platform uses Linux-based open-source software systems and provides community features including global listener mapping and user commentary on streamed content. The station has operated continuously despite significant industry challenges, including a 2007 royalty rate increase that initially threatened its viability.
