It later moved to 89.9 MHz and expanded its transmitter power. The call letters stand for "Wonderful Radio Viking Style," referencing the university's Viking mascot. Programming spans NPR news, sports, gospel, jazz, and urban contemporary music, serving both the northeastern North Carolina region and the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.
