WDDE-FM 91.1

A public radio station operating at 91.1 FM, WDDE is owned and operated by Delaware First Media Corporation and holds the distinction of being the first and only full-fledged public radio station based entirely in Delaware. Its studios are located on the Delaware State University campus on College Road, while the transmitter sits on Mid State Road in Frederica near Felton. The station broadcasts a mix of national and international programming sourced from NPR, BBC World Service, and Public Radio International, supplemented by locally produced news content created by its own staff. Its website provides multimedia coverage of Delaware affairs, including continuous live audio streaming, archived stories, and coverage of special events ranging from political debates to concerts. Sister stations WMPH 91.7 and WMHS 88.1 in Wilmington simulcast WDDE's programming during weekday mornings and afternoons. The station maintains a collaborative partnership with both Delaware State University and the University of Delaware but operates independently from both institutions. WDDE traces its origins to 2010, when a group of longtime Delaware journalists — many previously employed at WHYY in Philadelphia before that station reduced its Delaware coverage — founded Delaware First Media and launched DFM News, an online news outlet. The opportunity to establish an FM presence came when a construction permit for a noncommercial Dover station, originally awarded to Salisbury University's WSCL in 2007 but left unused, was about to expire. Delaware First Media acquired the permit and built out what became the state's flagship public radio service.
