The station's history dates to November 30, 1960, when it signed on as WPTW-FM from Piqua, initially simulcasting AM co-owner WPTW. Through subsequent decades, the station went through multiple format changes and ownership transitions. It operated as WCLR with an easy listening and later soft adult contemporary format before changing call letters again.
