About KNCK 94.9 FM

This radio station offers diverse programming.
A hot adult contemporary radio station broadcasting on 94.9 MHz, licensed to Concordia, Kansas, and serving a multi-community area including Concordia, Belleville, Minneapolis, and Beloit, as well as the broader North Central Kansas and South Central Nebraska region. It is owned and operated by Barbara White through the licensee entity White Communications, LLC. The station formerly carried programming from ABC Radio's Young AC network before transitioning to a more locally oriented presentation in 2010. KNCK-FM holds the distinction of being the first licensed FM broadcast station in North Central Kansas. It originally launched in 1979 as KCKS-FM under the ownership of General Broadcasting Company, founded by William F. Danenbarger, a former United Press International reporter and bureau manager. The initial license permitted broadcast at 3,000 watts on 95.3 MHz from an antenna atop the AM sister station's tower. In 1980, a tornado destroyed the shared tower infrastructure; while the AM station was quickly restored using a low-power transmitter, the FM outlet remained off air until a new tower was constructed. In 1989, General Broadcasting Co. transferred the license to KNCK Inc., which subsequently assigned it to White Communications. The station adopted the KNCK-FM call sign in 2010 to align with its AM sister station and to reflect its service identity as a North Central Kansas broadcaster. Local news coverage remains a component of the programming offering, addressing events throughout the station's primary service region.
