First licensed on February 9, 1937, as KWOS on 1310 kHz, the station has operated through several frequency reassignments and ownership changes. It moved to 1340 kHz in March 1941 following the implementation of the North American Regional Broadcasting Agreement, and was later reassigned to its current 1240 kHz frequency. Sports coverage is a significant component, with the station serving as the local home for Westwood One's NFL broadcasts and selected NCAA football and basketball programming, as well as NASCAR Cup race audio from MRN and PRN.
