About KCSR AM 610
A commercial AM radio station broadcasting a country music format on 610 kHz, operating under a license held by Chadrad Communications, Inc. The station first signed on the air on May 9, 1954, at a frequency of 1450 kHz with 1,000 watts of power, originally issued to Community Service Radio under founders Robert Fouse and William H. Finch. In 1963, the station moved from 1450 kHz to its current 610 kHz frequency, at which point it operated as a daytime-only outlet. Ownership passed to Dennis and Kathleen Brown of Chadrad Communications in July 1991 for $150,000. Programming draws on several national networks, including CBS News Radio, Nebraska Cornhuskers broadcasts, United Stations Radio Networks, and Westwood One Sports. The station has a long tradition of carrying Chadron State College athletics dating to the mid-20th century; sportscaster John Axtell served as the "Voice of the Eagles" for 27 years before transitioning to the role of News Director at the station. Current programming covers local and regional news, area high school sports schedules, and community events across the surrounding area.
