KZIA, branded as "Z 102.9," is a Top 40 (Contemporary Hit Radio) station based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a transmitter in Hiawatha whose signal reaches much of eastern Iowa including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo, and the Quad Cities, extending into Prairie du Chien and Platteville in Wisconsin. The station signed on April 25, 1975 as KQCR, establishing itself as the dominant CHR outlet in eastern Iowa. After a brief country detour in 1995 under the KXMX call letters, it returned to Top 40 format in June 1998 under its current KZIA identity. As of the mid-2020s it is the only locally owned commercial FM station in the Cedar Rapids market, with most competitors owned by iHeartMedia or Townsquare Media. Morning programming centers on The Morning Scramble with Dancin' Eric Hanson, Clare Duffy, and Producer Ben; Hanson and Duffy were named Iowa Broadcasters of the Year in 2022 by the Iowa Broadcasters Association. Other dayparts feature Lady J, Those Girls in the Afternoon with Destiny and Taylor, and Jaidyn on the Night Show. The station also operates KGYM, an AM sports station acquired in 2006 from Gazette Communications, whose programming simulcasts on 102.3 FM. Recurring promotions include Gown Town, a free prom dress initiative for students.
