Owned by Kimtron, Inc., a division of Crawford Broadcasting, the station has broadcast religious programming continuously since signing on February 18, 1963, making it one of the longer-running religious radio operations in the region. The station's call letters reflect its founding history: the "DC" represents Donald B. Crawford, son of evangelist Percy Crawford, who served as the station's original president, while the "X" represents the Christian cross. WDCX-FM operates as a brokered time station, in which nationally known religious figures pay for broadcast segments and solicit listener contributions.
