The AM license dates to 1947, originally operating on 1490 kHz under the ownership of Big Bend Broadcasting before shifting to 1240 kHz the following year. The station has a long history of locally rooted ownership. In 1958, Gene Hendryx acquired the property from Jack W. Hawkins and Barney W. Hubbs. Daytime transmitter power increased to 1,000 watts in 1960, with nighttime power matching that level by 1997. In 2015, Gene R. Hendryx Jr. sold the operation to the Benevich family, who operate it as Alpine Radio, LLC. Programming is locally produced and reflects the rhythms of a small Texas community. Weekday mornings feature a locally hosted morning show, followed by midday and afternoon programs with named on-air personalities. Evenings include a classic rock block or live sports coverage. Weekend schedules incorporate specialty programming such as gardening, lawn care, and Texas-themed content, along with Sunday morning Christian programming. Overnight hours run commercial-free. Local newscasts air on weekday afternoons, and the station provides regular weather, sports, and community news coverage for the surrounding region.
