A Dutch public radio station, established on August 3, 2002, primarily broadcasting urban music. It targets young people aged 15 to 35, with a particular focus on youth in the Randstad region. The musical selection includes mainstream pop, R&B, hip-hop, Latin, reggae, dancehall, oriental, Turkpop, Farsipop, Bhangra, Rai, French-African hip-hop, Mandopop, and other crossover styles. The station operates with four city editions for Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and The Hague, alongside a national edition launched on September 6, 2005. The local broadcasts feature a shared framework program, with specific hours split into distinct local editions. These city editions are transmitted via FM in their respective areas. The national edition is available through DVB-T, DAB+, cable, satellite, and internet, but not via FM. Additionally, special internet-only editions cater to specific music styles, including FunX Arab, FunX Fissa, FunX Hip Hop, FunX Latin, FunX Afro, and FunX Slow Jamz. Historically, the station's national broadcast capacity was secured following a legal dispute in 2005 concerning Colorful Radio, which was deemed an illegal ancillary activity. A positive court ruling in 2008 allowed the station to continue national digital broadcasts. On July 12, 2024, the station updated its slogan from "The sound of the city" to "your city your sound" and introduced a new logo and corporate identity. Since 2012, the Stichting FunX has been the primary entity managing the station's activities on behalf of the Nederlandse Publieke Omroep (NPO), which funds the station after national government and municipal funding largely ceased. FunX BV, a subsidiary of Stichting G4 Radio, handles local activities and advertising sales. This foundation is a collaboration of local broadcasters from the four major cities: SALTO Omroep Amsterdam, Stichting Open Rotterdam, RTV Utrecht, and Stadsomroep Den Haag. The local FM licenses are held by these four public broadcasters, while the national version is under the NPO. Until 2006, the national edition was affiliated with BNN, but from late 2006, the NOS board, a major financier, established a direct link through the then-Stichting Colorful Radio.
