¿A poco tan rápido?

Primero, reducirlo gradualmente, no abruptamente, nunca quitarlo abruptamente.
19:08 Speaker 2 Exacto, entonces necesitamos hacerlo poco a poco, gradual.
¿A dónde vamos? ¿A qué profesional buscamos?
Gracias, doctora
28:16 Speaker 2 Julia. Igualmente, muchas gracias por el espacio.

0:10 Speaker 1 ...or a question that please call us at 312-316-1053 or send us a WhatsApp message at 312-109-0047, as Omar Alvarez did. He says, this type of screen affections in children or young people could be confused with a neurodivergence assessment? That is the question. I ask it because lately it is identified as neurodivergent when in reality it could be the abuse of the use of screens. Yes, basically we had mentioned it a little doctor.
0:44 Speaker 2 Exactly, precisely the disconnection with another human being and the connection with digital media makes us have false positives and unfortunately it does not often correspond to an attention deficit disorder, to autism. autism, there are even many preschool children, especially if they have excessive consumption of digital media, they may seem to be, let's say, autism spectrum disorders and they are not, so we would have to make a disconnection of digital media before making a diagnosis and as such be very very aware of what is happening with these children because they are probably suffering situations that do not speak no then if a child has difficulty in language if a child has difficulty to have a healthy social relationship if a child has difficulty in attention memory or even writing can be exceeded on screens we need to do a very very
1:46 Speaker 1 adequate analysis of your development talking about that in these ages the The maximum would be half an hour, so if your little one or your little one is presenting this type of symptomatology or signs that Dr. Sarita mentions and they suspect a pathology, turn to see how long it has been happening on screens. It is not necessarily the cell phone, we are talking about television, we are talking about tablets, we are talking about computers, obviously yes, the cell phone screen. but then we would have to start going back to seeing our own digital consumption habits exactly instead of thinking that he already has a disease or a condition that is probably
2:29 Speaker 2 only simulating it exactly from 2021 it is integrated into the diagnostic manuals as such addiction to video games that is, as such, if it exists and unfortunately addiction to video games is is a very complex situation because from a young age they can be suffering it is a feeling that they cannot take off from a video game and now video games are already let's say too evolved that they can get to take the children to go to other platforms unfortunately the servers because they are very open and if we do not have obviously aware of what they are reviewing the children can fall even even in child pornography or in situations of abuse, right, that we have to be very careful. The high consumption of video games at the national level is leading to many chronic diseases as well as child obesity. It is known that three out of ten children have child obesity and many times it is due to a lack of physical activity that has been on the screens for so long.
3:32 Speaker 1 I remember that before it was like we are going to go on vacation and we are going to go to the beach or we are going to go to the field and we are going to be able to play or we are going to go to a summer course where I am going to play basketball, volleyball, I am going to go into the pool and now I have seen many children like how we are going to go out, how where we go I can't use my cell phone. Exactly, there is no signal. Yes, that worries them a lot.
3:58 Speaker 2 Exactly, there is even a syndrome, FOMO, where teenagers have an excessive fear of losing something. Something that was published, something that I did not like, something that happened to me in question of some state, and they are very afraid of losing that type of information. And because of that FOMO syndrome, there begins to be an addiction.
4:19 Speaker 1 Which is like something of fear of not being part, right?
4:22 Speaker 2 something like that, or fear of losing something on social networks, then unfortunately if it exists and obviously the homophobia is not that it is new to me, it is irrational fear not to have the cell phone, not having access to the internet, that is, when they leave the house and they forget the tablet, they forget the cell phone and they can't with that and they ask them to go home is because because they already have nomophobia, so be very careful with that because unfortunately they are new terms that are already being studied for the effect they have on the human brain.
4:59 Speaker 1 Is insomnia normal in boys or girls from 10 to 18 years old?
5:08 Speaker 2 It is not normal and it is one of the alarm signals that a digital intoxication is happening or a digital burnout syndrome. we would have to be very careful with the hygiene of the dream to which we refer with hygiene of the dream that an hour before sleeping no screens an hour before that is, just like dinner an hour before no screens and promote a healthy routine of the dream what are the healthy routines obviously brush your teeth put on comfortable clothes a pajama a room without so many visual stimuli, that is, no light, no sound, to have the environmental conditions as appropriate as the climate, let's say, and help them induce sleep. A child by itself does not sleep so easily, we need to accompany them in the first stages of life. Why? So that they feel that the environment is reliable, that it will induce a reparative sleep. many times I recommend for example the meditations or meditate before sleeping to help them breathe with the fact that children learn to breathe well it greatly improves their feeling of recovery or recovery in sleep it is said that a child would have to sleep between 9 and 11 hours in elementary school but then we would have to get them used to sleeping at the same time to wake up at the same time to
6:36 have all their routine very structured in question of the dream to repair yes
6:41 Speaker 1 because some of the customs that I have seen more rooted is that no one sleeps early I know how you sleep at 9 at night you are rare if you sleep at 9 at night but But if you take into account and you have to wake up, I don't know, at 6 or 7 in the morning, sleeping at 12 is no longer completing your sleep schedules.
7:06 Speaker 2 Exactly. There is a tremendous line of research regarding sleep, sleeping as a predictor of mental health and obviously of premature aging prevention and cognitive deterioration. So we have to get the children used to respecting their dream as the most precious thing. That is to say, to help them, to explain to them, to tell them that the growth hormone is released from 8 to 12, let's say at midnight. So we have to sleep before 8 or 8 o'clock so that we can release that hormone more and have the opportunity to grow. not then give the children all these tools is to convince them more than imposing them to convince them to sleep early is the best that exists
7:52 Speaker 1 not part of the problem of using screens at night is that the screen because it emits light and then your brain because it is not going to turn off it will cost a lot of work because then it is not possible to secrete and correct me here doctor melatonin
8:34 that there is still light and then I do not need to secrete melatonin, it will not give you sleep and then the problem comes, no, go to sleep, I can't sleep, mom, I can't sleep, dad, you can never sleep and I don't have time to accompany you and this should be very harmonious, being able to arrive and sleep and relax or how to close your mind becomes a
9:03 Speaker 2 a battle to camp exactly unfortunately the blue light on the screen does not allow the adequate segregation of melatonin and just does not rest and children feel that they cannot sleep many times children are also stressed not in the game for example there is persecution there is violence and suddenly then children believe that this can happen the brain as well said does not distinguish the reality of fantasy and precisely at that age it is believed that that a video game character is going to hurt them, and unfortunately, if we do not have a melatonin-acquired segregation in the next morning with the sunlight, then the necessary cortisol segregation is not given to be active, to have this ability to learn. So we would have to be aware of everything that happens in the body, but also of what we can do at a practical level at home to improve health, such as having a healthy sleep routine, having a healthy diet, obviously reducing the consumption of sugars, flours, also helping them a lot to have structured physical activities, having leisure time, that we have forgotten that leisure time because we believe that we are not doing anything, and no, in leisure creativity is generated, in leisure the connection with us is also generated many times.
10:27 we also have to have considerations about the spaces without cell phones at home having spaces without cell phones at home involves that we can see each other's eyes and conceive what is happening in the other update ourselves, what we liked, what we did not like about the day I highly recommend to the families who visit me that the space of food is without cell phones be sitting at the table and having that opportunity to dialogue
10:55 Speaker 1 place because sometimes we do not have it during the day and we are not taking advantage of it during the night that two minutes is not so fast time and notice that for thinking about the two minutes it was already what I was going to ask the doctor but it has to do with these these habits, no, if it went totally. I can tell you alarm signals. Yes, please, in these two minutes that we have left and I will remember what I was going to ask you. Well, clear alarm signals,
11:29 Speaker 2 eyes, eyes, very important, when children begin to deprive themselves of sleep to remain connected, that is, I do not want to sleep, I do not want to sleep, loss of interest in hobbies or between entertainments that before if they gave him pleasure how to go to play football that's exactly use or disproportionate access that increases the devices present the abstinence syndrome this moment where they take away from us the device and exploit lose the notion of time children do not have notion of time they do not even stop or eat and many times they they deny it, you have been more than half an hour, it is not true, I have 10 minutes, that is, they do not realize the time and obviously they lie about it. So they neglect their important activities for being connected, right, online or on the device. Those are the biggest alarm signals.
12:23 Speaker 1 And obviously, and I would like to talk about that in the next block, which will be our last block, doctor, the interaction afterwards with other children and other girls, I assume it must be complicated. You are not used to, you are not used to talking to the other person, to relate, because you do everything through the device.
12:48 Speaker 2 exactly then in that sense we need to help the children to restructure the how to get along with others and connect again and for you to connect
13:00 Speaker 1 again with us I'm going to send you to a promotional cut but please stay already in the last block of cures in health

15:08 Speaker 2 Universe 94.9 Harmony in time
15:15 It's 7 o'clock with 15 minutes
15:32 Speaker 1 we are already in the last block of cure yourself in health and today there is more or really is that if you are not going to if you did not hear it completely today I invite you to go to the universe page and there you can review the podcast the program or if not and you like to wake up at six and a half in the morning on Sundays this program is also broadcast today I am talking with with Dr. Sarita Salgado-Torres, she is a specialist in pediatric psychology about screen consumption, about this digital burnout, we talk digital, right? Exactly. If you have been listening to the program, well, the doctor has told us now what are these signs and symptoms of alarm that is not good, I would invite you that anything that seems strange or abnormal to you look for help look for a consultation it can be maybe with your head doctor who is probably the first instance to which you can get much simpler and then look for psychologists look for specialists who can review what is happening the other thing that I invite you not everything is a disease not everything needs medication, not everything is a pathology, not everything is a syndrome, sometimes we only have very bad habits, talking about screens for example.
17:02 Speaker 2 Exactly, many times changing small details makes the functionality in the family improve tremendously, but if we are detecting that at the moment of removing the device from our son, our daughter, our nephew, our neighbor, neighbors we are realizing that they have this tremendous frustration this tremendous explosion there we are presenting a digital intoxication a
17:29 Speaker 1 burnout syndrome that can be digital this explosion is this anger can get to be physically violent and serious yes yes yes it has been documented
17:40 Speaker 2 even that it is called heteroagression when we attack others can There can be aggression against the parents, there can even be aggression against themselves. There are many boys who get injured when they get frustrated with the idea of not having the device. And there is a fact that I was very surprised by, that sometimes they access not for pleasure, but to avoid the discomfort of not doing it. It's like an addictive substance. So sometimes they don't even want to be there anymore, but just to not feel the discomfort of not being online, in the video game or on the social network. So many times what we need as companions of the children is to help them get through that discomfort of not having the device, help them little by little and tell them that this is going to happen, finally it is not forever. always there are very specific strategies for him how to make that digital disconnection first reduce it gradually not abruptly never
18:43 Speaker 1 remove it abruptly which is very common is not like I take it off and locked two days the device no imagine that you feel bad we are going to transfer something physical that very probably we all understand better than that your head hurts and they tell you, well, yes, but I'm not going to give you anything for the headache, hold on for the three days that your head is going to hurt, that's inhuman.
19:08 Speaker 2 Exactly, so we need to do it gradually.
19:14 Second, start by putting limits on time and supervised content, especially supervised content. What are the contents that we say to the children? Obviously violence, obviously pornography, terror. And the terror, the terror is very inadequate, the children do not have to watch horror movies, even though it seems fun to us how they put it, that is not healthy. The terror and obviously also the drama, those dramas that now come out of the cartoons, from the animes, is not adequate. We need to sit down with them and give them a digital alphabetization, that is, help them to be critical. know son what do you think daughter what do you think of this accompany them give them alternative activities that is to say not just take them off but well today we are going to make a cake together to do it we need to go to the supermarket to do this we are going to do activities or have activities that can replace them do not watch the changes in behavior in children the dream the appetite watch them and obviously focus on the preventive level we are going to return to school if we need We need to create with them a schedule of activities and we need to have recreational activities in those spaces where they are not in school, where we get involved with them. Obviously, we are going to give them a space, yes, so that they can be online, let's say, if they want a maximum hour and be aware of them.
20:43 Never go to the room, never go away or close your devices when we get close. we need to be aware of what they see because what we can find is very serious.
20:54 Speaker 1 Yes, you already said it, doctor, they can be jumping between pages, let's say it like that, and arrive by accident. Just as there are people who are watching others on the street and maybe they want to take something from these people and they watch over you there I am going to sound very conspiratorial but hey that happens in the networks that happens digitally there will be those who are looking for the opportunity to deceive a little one or a little one and it is complicated for us to realize deaf if you are not there seeing what you are doing and especially because sometimes adults
21:41 Speaker 2 we are not so updated and we do not know what happens in roblox we do not know what happens in tiktok or we do not know the other servers to which the children go unfortunately there are many servers that are not supervised by the law and there are many situations where child pornography can be given, white treatment and especially grooming, which is when an adult and sexually assault a child by these digital media. Many times children see it as a refuge to get to an application. Why? Because there is a word of encouragement, because there is what I do not have at home.
22:19 Speaker 1 Attention!
22:19 Speaker 2 So, many boys come to me and tell me, is that this guy who is a friend, or virtual or real, or who says he is a child, he tells me that he loves me. He tells me that he is always for me, that he will always be. And I don't hear this at home. And then the digital medium becomes a fortress, it becomes their life. And unfortunately this happens very frequently and they are kidnapped, they are children who can become obviously disappeared. So we need to pay a lot of attention to this.
22:51 Speaker 1 Yes, I think that something that could be a great tool that it is. if it is a great tool to the whole digital world the devices and others are also a danger if we do not know how to dose them and if we do not know how to use them and know us as
23:12 Speaker 2 adults first we have to know the platform before allowing a child or a girl to access
23:18 Speaker 1 is it possible if the problem of addiction I do not know if it is fine as I am mentioning it is very severe it can be fully recovered the little one the
23:33 Speaker 2 little one of course if the brain has a lot of recovery capacity but there the adults or the parents or the caregivers will be the ones who have to have a lot of reflexive capacity with the children we call it reflexive function to that capacity that parents have to see the child does not mean sympathize with them but if they put themselves in their place and start to see through their eyes if for a child it is so reinforcing a device we have to see through it and rather curiously that is to say to see son daughter because you like it so much that you like it so much from there explain to me I want to know more than restricting curiously the mind of the child allows you to give a healthy mentalization is called that is that reflexive function that we would all have to have as adults for with the children is not this part where I want to understand you and therefore I want you to explain to me how we can do it I agree that you play but we are going to do it negotiating you play 20 minutes and we do maybe or we play the three other 20 minutes or we play we play hide-and-seek, or we play ball, or we go to some domestic task, starting to have that negotiation with our children will greatly improve the reflexive function.
24:51 Speaker 1 And I think, I think that nothing happens if at some point of the day we do nothing.
24:58 Speaker 2 Exactly.
24:59 Speaker 1 It seems that we are afraid to do nothing, to be sitting,
25:05 Speaker 2 Without worrying.
25:05 Speaker 1 stinging your nose and seeing how the fly passes nothing happens that is
25:11 Speaker 2 admirable give yourself time not of course to see a sunset or have these spaces that are called mindful that is specifically just to give us account or fully attend to our breathing be more attentive to how we are to thank you have to help the children to have all those processes because for themselves they will not do it and less if they are intoxicated with
25:34 Speaker 1 with digital media, of course, I once read that it was good for us to get bored and that it is very good
25:40 Speaker 2 for children to get bored, it is the root of creativity and obviously innovation and sometimes we do not have it with this overload of the idea that already does everything for us, we already have a constant difficulty to think and solve problems, yes, how are we going to solve problems
25:59 Speaker 1 if you have not given yourself to the task of precisely that, that no one will solve it for you. Oh, how scary! And what do we do then? Where do we go? What professional do we look for?
26:13 Speaker 2 We can generally treat it both in psychotherapy and review what we do, it is called functional conduct analysis, so we review in terms of how they are working. Many many times we call the reforcers the function of gratification, so what we do is gradually reduce if there is a digital intoxication, a burnout syndrome, we check in the family how to do it and how to create something called family codes, family codes where we establish by strategies, strategies, regulations in digital issues and spaces without these means and we began to establish rules. Rules such as operation or operativity that every company has. In such a way that we help especially the children to consider that this is not an imposition only of the authority, but it is an agreement that in some way he can participate or she can participate to generate her own rules. maybe the child says yes but that mom also leave the phone so that they can attend me so that they can see me for a moment
27:19 Speaker 1 exactly Dr. Sarita, we have run out of time, we have basically a minute left if someone who listened to us is interested in going to a consultation, where can they locate you?
