This radio station was established in 2019 by Matías Riroroko, a Rapa Nui individual dedicated to preserving the culture and language of his people. The station's mission is to promote the recovery and preservation of Rapa Nui cultural values, including its language, customs, and traditional music. Programming includes a variety of local music from the island, with live broadcasting from 09:00 to 15:00 hours on weekdays, followed by music programming from 09:00 to 18:00 hours. The station aims to foster awareness and active participation among inhabitants in preserving their heritage. Historically, Rapa Nui music has evolved from vocal and stone-based performances, incorporating instruments like the Keho (stone drum) and Kauaha (horse jaw), as well as bamboo flutes and hand claps. Between the 1930s and 1960s, instruments such as guitars, bass drums, ukuleles, and accordions were introduced. More recently, percussion instruments like the Toere, Au (ceremonial oar), Ua (scepter), Fatete, and Tura drums have been incorporated alongside guitars and bongos. Music and dance are central to transmitting Rapa Nui history, expressing gratitude to ancestors, recalling spirits, narrating love stories, and recounting historical events.
