32:18 Speaker 6 This is Air News South Australia. Good morning, I'm Steve Barker. Multiple offences have been detected during Operation Stop, Drink, Drug, Drive. The targeted statewide road safety operation was carried out by SA Police last week. 139 motorists were charged or fined for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This includes 116 for drug-driving offences, 23 detected for alcohol-related offences, including one driver who refused a breath test. A total of 116 immediate loss-of-licence notices were issued and 23 vehicles impounded. SA Police have charged a man and a woman after they allegedly found drugs and firearms at their home in Adelaide's south-east. Darren McElhain with this report.
33:06 Speaker 5 SA Police conducted a search at a Port Pirie West home after a stolen iPad and watch were tracked to the address. Officers allegedly located the stolen items along with cannabis, MDMA, methamphetamine, GHB and other drug paraphernalia. Police also allegedly seized cash, two gel blasters, an imitation firearm and a taser. A 30-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were arrested and charged with numerous drug and firearm offences. They were refused bail and will reappear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court at a later date. Darren McElhane, Air News.
33:42 Speaker 6 As mentioned yesterday, record rainfall has provided an enormous boost for the state's water catchments. More from Sarah Patterson.
33:51 Speaker 2 It was the highest 24-hour deluge in a decade, with heavy rain and hail turning waterways into raging torrents. Huge inflows to local catchments brought waterfalls in the Adelaide Hills to life. As the ABC reports, across the Mount Lofty Ranges, around 18 billion litres of water flowed into the state's metro reservoir system in the space of just 24 hours, raising the combined storage level 9% to 73% capacity. Sarah Patterson, Air News.
34:23 Speaker 6 The use of AI becoming increasingly influential and controversial, according to Premier Peter Malinowskis, means the government needed to act now. He says we can choose to allow this industry to come to our country and evolve in a way that's unregulated and unchecked, or we can choose to set the agenda. Mr Malinowskis recently returned from the United States, where he met with representatives from AI heavyweights, including OpenAI, Anthropic, as well as Apple. Mr Malinaskis says the upcoming Royal Commission will shape future approaches to AI, including potential restrictions on its use. An Adelaide woman is preparing to end her life using Voluntary Assisted Dying and she's calling for changes to the Criminal Code to make it easier for regional residents to access the care. Delegates at the Labor Party's recent national conference voted to amend federal law to allow telehealth for VAD consultations. However, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese apparently is personally opposed to it. Independent MP Kate Cheney and Green Senator Sarah Hansen-Young are both pushing for changes to allow telehealth for VAD care. The financial regulator has placed the country's car insurance companies on notice. An ASIC review has found premiums have soared far beyond inflation in the past year. The body says renewal notices and some insurers didn't clearly explain why premiums were rising.
