A radio station broadcasting a classic hits format to the Worcester, Massachusetts area, primarily operating on 940 AM from Webster, Massachusetts with programming additionally carried on FM translator W257EH at 99.3 MHz. Licensed to Webster and owned by Kurt Jackson through Quinebaug Valley Broadcasting, LLC, the station serves southern Worcester County, northern Rhode Island, and northeastern Connecticut. Due to 940 AM being designated a Canadian and Mexican clear-channel frequency, the station transmits at 1,000 watts during daytime hours but reduces to four watts at night to prevent cross-border interference. The station originated as WGFP, with a construction permit granted on March 5, 1979; the call sign honored Gilbert Francis Perry, a relative of the original owner. For a period, the station operated from a long-wire antenna rather than a conventional tower, and an experimental crossed-field antenna design was tested on the tower site under the designation WX1CFA. On December 29, 2017, the station shifted from a country format branded as "Cool Country 940" to a classic hits format as "The Lake 940." Quinebaug Valley Broadcasting acquired the station from Just Because, Inc. for $75,000, effective September 29, 2022, and the call letters were changed to WQVR in October 2022. The station provides local high school sports coverage alongside its classic hits music programming.
