A public radio service associated with KUER-FM (90.1 MHz), a station owned by the University of Utah and located in Salt Lake City. The parent station, KUER-FM, began broadcasting on June 5, 1960, initially as an educational broadcaster with an emphasis on classical music. Its studios are housed in the Eccles Broadcast Center on the University of Utah campus, and its main transmitter is positioned on Farnsworth Peak, with a relay network distributing the signal across Utah. The station joined NPR upon the network's formation and evolved through a hybrid format that combined daytime classical music and nighttime jazz programming across the 1970s and 1980s. In response to competitive pressure from KBYU-FM and KCPW in the 1990s, classical music was removed from the schedule in 2001, prompting listener response but not a major drop in financial support. Jazz programming was removed from the lineup in 2015. KUER-3, the classical-branded stream, continues to offer classical music content as part of the station's multistream services. The station also produces RadioWest, a long-running local and regional public affairs discussion program focused on Utah and the Western United States. Current coverage includes Utah state politics, water policy, and government affairs.
