Licensed to Newberry, Michigan, this AM station broadcasts a classic country format and has served the community since its founding in 1966 as the town's first radio station, launched by the Newberry Broadcasting Company. It shares a call sign prefix and ownership history with its FM sister station, both based in the same Upper Peninsula community. The station's history spans multiple ownership transitions and format shifts. Prime Time Productions acquired it in 1979, transitioning the format through adult contemporary and middle of the road programming during the 1980s. Jack St. Andre purchased both stations in 1982; following his death in 1993, his wife Peggy operated them and moved WNBY to an easy listening format. F&W Broadcasting acquired the stations in 1995 and guided the station through a news and talk format from 1997 to 2002 before it adopted its current classic country identity. Sovereign Communications has owned the station since 2004. Current programming reflects a strong local character, including the morning drive show Casey & The Coffee Crew, the call-in trading program Trading Post, the seasonal Deer Hunters Round-Up, and live play-by-play coverage of Newberry Indians high school sports.
