A commercial FM radio station licensed to Los Angeles, California, broadcasting a contemporary hit radio (Top 40) format to the Greater Los Angeles area. Owned by iHeartMedia, it serves as the flagship station for the On Air with Ryan Seacrest program and as the origin station for iHeartMedia's national KISS-FM brand. Studios are located in Burbank; the transmitter operates from Mount Wilson north of Los Angeles. The station extends its coverage through a single full-power FM repeater, KVVS at 105.5 MHz in Rosamond. It has consistently ranked as the top-rated station in the Los Angeles, Orange County, and Ventura County radio markets, with an average audience approaching one million listeners. As of late 2021, it is the only Top 40 station operating in the Los Angeles market. The frequency at 102.7 MHz first signed on in 1961 as KLAC-FM. After several format and ownership changes through the 1960s and 1970s — including stints as KRHM and KKDJ — the station adopted the KIIS-FM call sign in 1975 during a simulcast with AM sister station KIIS (1150 kHz). The KIIS spelling was chosen to mirror the AM frequency numerals.
