Über WRFL FM 88.1

WRFL FM 88.1 streamt live aus Lexington KY, United States, auf Tuninga Radio.

Dieser Radiosender bietet ein vielfältiges Programm.

A 7,900-watt non-commercial college radio station affiliated with the University of Kentucky, broadcasting at 88.1 MHz on the FM band. Operating continuously since 1988, the station was founded with a 250-watt transmitter and operated in an entirely live, non-automated format until the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2007 the FCC approved a power upgrade to 7,900 watts, substantially expanding the terrestrial signal; the transition was completed in May 2010 under a fundraising campaign titled "Build the Tower, Boost the Power." The station is entirely volunteer-operated, staffed primarily by University of Kentucky students alongside community members from the broader area. Its programming philosophy mandates that all music aired must qualify as alternative — defined strictly as material unavailable through commercial or traditional radio outlets — a requirement embedded in the station's FCC educational license. Individual DJs plan their own programs in either general or genre-specific formats, and the station maintains strong ties to the local music scene through its live music program WRFL-Live, which spotlights underground and regional artists. The syndicated progressive news program Democracy Now! airs five days per week, supplemented by student-produced news and sports content. The Gavin Report recognized the station among the top two percent of college radio stations nationally. Current station slogans include "All the way to the left" and "The only alternative left."
