Licensed to Allegan, Michigan, the station has been on the air since 1981, originally signing on under the call letters WAOP. Its city of license was Otsego during early years before shifting to Allegan in November 2006. The station programmed Adult Contemporary music aimed at the Otsego and Allegan communities before transitioning to the oldies format targeting the broader Kalamazoo audience. It was previously branded as "Quixie 101," a phonetic rendering of its call letters, and later as "Cool 101" before adopting its current identity.
