The HD3 subchannel of KUAF 91.3 FM, a non-commercial public radio station owned by the University of Arkansas. The parent station, which signed on the air on January 5, 1973, began as a low-power 10-watt student-run operation on 88.9 MHz before receiving FCC approval to increase power and relocate to 91.3 MHz, with the new high-power transmitter going live in 1985. KUAF now operates at 100,000 watts effective radiated power — the maximum permitted for non-grandfathered FM stations — with its transmitter on Skelton Road in Wyola, Arkansas, providing coverage across portions of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. A locally produced weekday magazine program, Ozarks at Large, airs at noon and repeats in early evenings, covering regional news, culture, and affairs of the Ozarks region. Recent Ozarks at Large topics have included the transformation of Branson, Missouri, into a hub for faith-based and patriotic entertainment, as well as community-focused stories on nonprofit services and educational institutions in Northwest Arkansas. The jazz subchannel reflects the parent station's longstanding tradition of music programming: classical music airs late nights on the main channel, with jazz and blues featured on Friday and Saturday evenings. By offering a dedicated HD3 jazz stream, the station expands access to this programming for listeners with HD Radio-compatible receivers or online streaming. KUAF also serves as the NPR member station for Fort Smith, Arkansas, extending its public radio mandate across a wider section of the state.
