The station is an NPR member, carrying national programs including Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Fresh Air with Terry Gross. The station signed on January 5, 1973, as a student-run operation using a 10-watt transmitter on 88.9 MHz, audible only in the immediate university vicinity. In the early 1980s, the university obtained FCC approval to increase power to 60,000 watts and shift to the 91.3 MHz frequency. The more powerful transmitter launched in 1985, establishing the station as Northwest Arkansas' first full-signal public radio service. The station has been a charter NPR member since 1970.
