A student-run college radio station licensed to the University of Maine at Farmington, operating at 100 watts on the FM dial. The station reports its music airplay to the North American College and Community Radio Chart (NACC), situating it within the broader ecosystem of campus and community broadcasting across North America. The station's first license was obtained in 1972, making it one of the longer-running college radio operations in Maine. Over the following three decades it migrated across several frequencies — 91.9, 92.3, 100.5, and 100.1 MHz — each move driven by spectrum-planning decisions that prioritized upgrades for larger commercial or public facilities. In late 2007 the University of Maine System applied for a new Class A license on 91.5 MHz, and in September 2010 the WUMF call letters transferred to that facility, which launched with 100 watts of effective radiated power, a significant increase over the 13 watts available on the previous license. The station temporarily suspended live programming at the end of 2019 and operated on automation before a revitalization effort began in 2021. It marked its 50th anniversary on air in November 2022. Programming centers on new and emerging independent music, with particular emphasis on indie, alternative, and alt-punk sounds, though the format accommodates a broad range of genres. The station maintains a roster of approximately 50 student DJs, whose schedules vary by semester, alongside talk programming. Governance includes an executive board comprising a Station Manager, Technical Director, Secretary, Local Music Liaison, Historian, Publicist, and Event Coordinators.
