The call sign WVOB had prior history before its Alabama use: between 1963 and January 1982, the same call letters were assigned to a radio station in Bel Air, Maryland, where the initials stood for "voice of Bel Air." That station later became WHRF before the call sign was reassigned. The station's license was canceled by the Federal Communications Commission on June 9, 2025, following a determination that the station had not operated from its FCC-authorized location for a period spanning from 2018 to 2022. Under FCC rules, a station that goes silent for more than one year is subject to license cancellation; the four-year gap in authorized operation exceeded this threshold, resulting in the termination of the license.
