Owned and operated by Woodward Communications, a Dubuque, Iowa-based media company, the station broadcasts from studios situated on College Avenue in Appleton, with its transmitter located in Seymour. The station launched in spring 1998 as WECB under the ownership of Earl and Carol Brooker — local figures who used the call letters as their namesake. The original format featured 1970s hits alongside play-by-play coverage of the Green Bay Gamblers (hockey) and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (baseball). Woodward Communications acquired the station on April 1, 2003, and within months rebranded it as "104.3 The Breeze," adopting a Soft Adult Contemporary format with programming including the John Tesh Radio Show and seasonal all-Christmas music in November and December. A significant format change came on December 31, 2009, when the station adopted the call letters WCHK-FM and launched an adult hits format under the "Chuck FM" brand — a Jack FM-influenced approach emphasizing broad music variety with minimal DJ presence. The station subsequently transitioned again, ultimately adopting its current alternative rock identity as WFZZ, branded "104.3 The Fuse."
