Initially launched in Udine in July 1982, this station began as a dance music outlet, conceived by Mario Pinosa and Leo Barbarino. Its early format was innovative, featuring music without speakers, interspersed with jingles and short sketches known as "frikkonate." This approach, combined with a distinctive "Two Stars" logo on a red background, helped it establish itself as a significant national network. The station's early operations also involved an articulated system of extra-editorial initiatives, including musical events, travel, and the production of gadgets and music. Pinosa himself gained recognition as a music producer in the late 1980s and early 1990s under the pseudonym Athaualpa. Following various changes in ownership from 1999 onwards, which led to shifts in its style and musical orientation, the station ceased terrestrial broadcasts in 2005, transitioning to a web-only format. In 2006, founder Mario Pinosa revived the original successful format with the creation of Radio España Network, which replicated its historical programming. Web broadcasts were suspended in 2008, leading to a temporary period of inactivity. However, transmissions resumed on January 13, 2009, via both FM and web, after the acquisition of its brands by the Next group, led by Domenico Zambarelli. On July 12, 2018, the station again interrupted both FM and streaming broadcasts, transferring its brand to a digital terrestrial TV channel named Italia Network Television, which had a brief existence. For several years thereafter, the station maintained an active website, offering a looped audio file. In March 2025, it recommenced regular web broadcasts and expanded to DAB+ in Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, and Lazio. The current programming targets a generalist audience with a modern format, accompanied by a new logo featuring a single star on a tricolor background, emphasizing its Italian style.
